Nurturing my Soul

“Can you see the holiness in those things you take for granted–a paved road or a washing machine?  If you concentrate on finding what is good in every situation, you will discover that your life will suddenly be filled with gratitude, a feeling that nurtures the soul.” — Rabbi Harold Kushner

This weekend i get the opportunity to say thank you to a group of people who have been a blessing to us for various amounts of time and in different ways. i have no idea what it is going to look like other than to just enjoy the time. While not knowing what it will look like i have an expectation of it being special. As i look at the guest list i am amazed at the variety of people. Some are young, a few are old. Male and female of course. Tall, short, thin and ….. not so thin? Traditional and contemporary. Baptist, Charismatic, Independent, Messianic and a some who will have nothing to do with any of that. Some have degrees and others who are working hard on them. There are those that show up on time and those that think that’s a foreign language and go by ish time. Well i could go on forever and it’s kinda fun to see how God has placed such a wide variety of people in my life, but i really just want to take some time prior to all of us arriving and be thankful for them all. With all that said, i want to thank God for life and what He means to me. For me, no thank you would be complete if i did not say i am especially thankful for Ann Marie. i must also say that i am thankful for each of our children and there spouses and their pursuit of a personal intimate relationship with the Father. Then at 60 years old what would my life be without my three grandchildren and so my children and their spouses get an extra touch of thankfulness for their contribution to that cause.

my thoughts on other things i am thankful for.

i am thankful that i don’t already have everything i desire, If i did, what would there be to look forward to?

i am thankful when i don’t know something For it gives me the opportunity to learn.

i am thankful (working on it) for the difficult times. During those times i grow.

i am thankful for my limitations. Because they give me opportunities for improvement.

i am thankful for each new challenge Because it will build my strength and character.

i am thankful for my mistakes however humbling they are. They will teach me valuable lessons.

i am thankful when i’m tired and weary. Because it means i’ve made a difference.

It is easy to be thankful for the good things. A life of rich fulfillment comes to those who are also thankful for the setbacks.

GRATITUDE can turn a negative into a positive. If i find a way to be thankful for my troubles they can become my blessings.

Life is not about it getting or making it easier. It is all about just enjoying being there.
