If i Won The Lottery…

If i won the lottery, what would i do with the money? If a genie granted me three wishes, what would i ask for? It does happen, well the lottery part at least and a genie does come out of the hood of a car on television.

2 Chronicles 1:7 “That night God appeared to Solomon and said to him, Ask what I shall give you. And Solomon said to God, You have shown great mercy and loving-kindness to David my father and have made me king in his place. Now, O Lord God, let Your promise to David my father be fulfilled, for you have made me king over a people like the dust of the earth in multitude. Give me now wisdom and knowledge to go out and come in before this people, for who can rule this Your people who are so great? God replied to Solomon, Because this was in your heart and you have not asked for riches, possessions, honor, and glory, or the life of your foes, or even for long life, but have asked wisdom and knowledge for yourself, that you may rule and judge My people over whom I have made you king, Wisdom and knowledge are granted you. And I will give you riches, possessions, honor, and glory, such as none of the kings had before you, and none after you shall have their equal.”

It’s a game that’s not only familiar to me but to most of us. The thing about the game is that it tends to reveal a persons perceived source of contentment.

Solomon actually experienced this first hand. God basically said I grant you one wish. What Solomon chose revealed much about him. His father, David, said of Solomon, “my son, whom God has chosen, is young and inexperienced, and the work is great, for the palace will not be for man but for the Lord God.”  David knew that constructing the temple was going to be a challenge and more so for a person who was young and inexperienced.

What would i ask for given the same opportunity?

Solomon asked for “wisdom and knowledge to go out and come in before this people, for who can govern this people of yours, which is so great?” Makes sense. Solomon had just become king is to construct a temple for God. Solomon may have felt that he was not up for the challenge thus why not use this once in a lifetime opportunity to insure his success.
