Metamorphosis… Welcome!

An effective teacher teaches people how to think and not how to memorize. These posts are attempting to do just that. If all you do is memorize the day will come when you run up against something that you didn’t memorize and thus you will be stuck. If i in some small way i am able to teach you how to think then there will never be anything that you can’t find a way through it.

Friday’s MEASURE #4 was 2 Corinthians 3:16-18 “But whenever anyone turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away. Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, (this portion of the verse specifically), are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.”

Transformed… a metamorphosis and the practical application i under took was the purchase of a Butterfly Kit. The kit came with live caterpillars and all the necessary stuff needed to watch them grow bigger, weave a cocoon and finally break out as butterflies. It was not my intent to post about the actual metamorphosis but from day one i began learning lessons. Thus i began to study, not the bugs but their “process to the promise.”

Upon opening the box i removed a blue habitat that sprung into position as soon as i pulled it from the box. Next i saw a poster which gave me a picture of what the end result was to look like. As i dug deeper into the box around all the packing i found a jar with these tiny little creatures just lying there. my first thought… i’ve been ripped off. They weren’t what i expected! They were less than a 1/8 inch in size and they were ugly. Thirdly there was no movement so i thought they were dead. Ripped off right?

i eventually found the instructions on the back of the poster. i learned it would take 24 to 48 hours for these bugs to start moving around. Eventually three were moving and thus the sellers guarantee was completed. They gave me six and said at lease three would be alive. 50 – 50 odds. As of today all six are living and they are at least an inch in length. As i look at what i have purchased and in spite of the poster showing me the end result, i still no clue as to how these things are going to become the thing that they show me. Honestly i can not see what God is doing in the lives of these bugs. So i stumble regarding their metamorphosis. But i repositioned myself and am attending only on what God has already revealed and am being most blessed by what i am learning.

During my lifetime i have seen caterpillars. i’ve seen cocoons. And yes i’ve seen butterflies, but never have i seen the process. This week all that is changing as i apply MEASURE #4 and watch with amazement.

Ed, be sure to take photos of your butterflies once they….show up?

This post reminds me of Brody’s graduation this past May. Each graduate in his class was given a butterfly in a box that they got to release – a symbol of new beginnings and being released into the world after high school. It was very special to watch Brody release that butterfly. He was so happy to see it take off out of the box and fly away. I’m praying God will give me that same joy as I watch Brody “extend his wings”. We brought him to N.C. State University this past weekend. We miss him so much already! The house is so quiet without him and dinnertime just isn’t the same. But, we’re adjusting and celebrating what God is doing in Brody’s life. We are very blessed.

Funny you use that verse. We sang a song about “where the spirit of the Lord is there is freedom” at church Sunday. That song has been stuck in my head ever since. I believe the Lord wants me to fully hide that in my heart as we move forward. I have also been experiencing this peace… He gave me Isa. 26:3 this morning to explain why I have so much peace…”You will keep Theresa in PERFECT peace, as long as her mind stays on You, & because she trusts in You.”

How awesome of God to have written a specific verse for you and for where you are today thousands of years ago. So how can we ever doubt His provision for today.
